The last module of the Professional MBA Entrepreneurship & Innovation at the end of March 2018 was a highlight in many ways. The Continuing Education Center of TU Wien and the WU Executive Academy invited a number of top guest speakers. This time we welcomed Microsoft Austria's General Manager Dr. Dorothee Ritz and four prominent representatives of Austria's startup scene.
Microsoft Austria @ TU Wien
It was a great pleasure to have Dr. Dorothee Ritz, General Manager of Microsoft Austria, as our guest speaker at TU Wien. Ms. Ritz has been in leading positions at Microsoft for many years. Since 2015 she has been devoting herself to managing Microsoft Austria. Together with a strong team and close partnerships with business partners and customers, she intends to play an active role in shaping the digital transformation in Austria.
With the motto "Artificial Intelligence powered by Microsoft" Ms. Ritz talked passionately about new technologies and how they can change and at the same time improve society. "Empower every person and organization on the planet to achieve more" is the mission of Microsoft. Artificial intelligence plays a central role - especially its democratization. To illustrate AI and its application, Ms. Ritz demonstrated a chat bot which can easily be used. The QnA Maker provides a solution for creating a bot dialogue as easily as pasting in a URL. When using the bot questions are answered immediately by a virtual communication robot. Many interesting questions also came from the audience after the talk, which Ms. Ritz answered with great enthusiasm. Afterwards a buffet provided a cozy atmosphere to further chat.

In addition to theoretical input on Entrepreneurship we also want to provide our MBA students with practical insights. Therefore, we invited four renowned representatives of Austria’s startup scene to a panel discussion at TU Wien. The four experts were Floarian Bräuer (co-founder of Waytation), Lisa Fassl (CEO of AAIA and Female Founders), Markus Lang (co-founder and VC of Pioneers Ventures) and Markus Raunig (CEO Austrian Startups).
Moderated by Prof. Sabine Köszegi (academic director), the panel discussed burning topics like "Being an Entrepreneur", "Starting a Business in Austria" and "Funding and Support". Different functions and roles of the speakers allowed them to answer questions from diverse perspectives. As part of a growing Austrian startup scene, the four experts know each other very well, which sometimes lead to an exciting and amusing verbal exchange among them. All of them impressed with their experience and enthusiasm, not only during the panel discussion but also at the open Q&A session afterwards.
